Midsummer Festival (Joninės) Celebrated in Slavyani Village on 27 June

On 27 June, the traditional Midsummer Festival (Joninės) was celebrated in the village of Slavyani. Over the years, the village has become a long-standing venue for the Lithuanian community’s Midsummer celebrations, bringing together Lithuanians and their friends every year.

Around 40 guests attended the event. The celebration was organized by the Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Lithuania, Associate Professor Dr. Racho Ribarov, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Romania.

Throughout the celebration, Lithuanian music filled the air, accompanied by dancing, a cheerful atmosphere, and a strong sense of community. Participants actively joined in traditional games and sports competitions, including sack races, tug-of-war, and other entertaining activities.

The Midsummer Festival in Slavyani once again demonstrated that preserving Lithuanian traditions and fostering a strong sense of community unite people of different generations, strengthen mutual bonds, and help safeguard Lithuania’s cultural heritage while living abroad.
